There are three inescapable facts that are worth considering.

1. Over 2.7 million people live on less than $2.00 per day. This is barely enough to allow an individual to buy sufficient calories to survive.
2. The numbers of poor in the world are growing faster than the funding required in solving the problem of poverty.
3. The long term cost of doing nothing is far greater than the cost of supporting positive sustainable change in the lives of the poor.

While these facts are compelling, the most compelling fact in our experience is that when we look into the eyes of the rural working poor we see nothing but potential. Based on their current lifestyles, they already possess natural entrepreneurial instincts and a culture of sharing and collaboration. In short, they already have the "DNA" of a successful and self-sufficient society. All they need are better opportunities.

Yes we are experiencing a world recession and we have to tighten our belts, but we cannot forget the others on our planet in the process. In the connected world of the 21st century we no longer have room for separation between the developed and undeveloped. Increasingly we are all in this together.
